Murphy is a 10 year old Flame Point Siamese
Murphy is a foodie, enjoys cat naps, playing, and just chilling. His favorite color is orange, he is a Leo, and single. He is a blue-eyed blonde with just a hint of orange. A very handsome boy who deserves a swipe right on the dating apps right ladies?
Murphy’s favorite vacation spot is Murpheesboro TN. His favorite restaurant is any local dive serving Murph & Turf. After 9 years of online study, Murphy just passed the bar and is now an attorney. He is starting his own practice called…Murphy’s Law! One day he hopes to become a food critic.
Murphy’s story starts with my wife and I working with a large feral colony that we were trying to get spayed/neutered. There were 37 adults and we discovered what ended up being another 15 kittens. Over several days were able to trap the kittens and take them home to find homes for them. Then we were able to work with the rest of the colony.
The kittens were a variety of ages and dispositions. Most of them were in pretty good shape, but a couple needed some basic medical care. Murphy was the most serious since he had an eye that looked red. The vet said he had a scratch and it was infected. If we were not able to get the infection cleared up he would probably lose the eye.
The problem was Murphy was a holy terror. He screamed, squirmed, fought, and basically hid most of the time. He was one of the last and most difficult captures and was not friendly at all. We had to put in eye drops 3 times a day. We had to track him down and wrap him in a towel to do the drops. Ultimately, we were able to save his eye, but his vision has never been all that great.
Luckily, there were a couple of the kittens that had been handled a little bit by humans. These guys were a little shy art first, but warmed up pretty quick. We were able to use them as bridge cats for the rest of the group. We divided these kittens into two groups and kept them in two separate bedrooms initially. The larger group went in one room and the smaller younger babies went in the other room. We also had 3 tiny babies that had to be bottle fed. They were kept in a large cat carrier early on.
Although we really wanted to keep about half the kittens we ended keeping three that we thought would be the most difficult to find homes for. They were Murphy, Rocko, and Lola.
My wife had always wanted a Flame Point and was up for the challenge. I clicked with Rocko who was the other kitten with a number of health issues. Lola just hid all the time. Murphy started to make some progress with interacting with us. He was drawn to the fun games we played with the other more social kittens and eventually joined in after a few days. We still had to wrap him in a towel for his medicine.
Murphy soon became one of our greatest success stories! He was such a turd early on and then his wonderful, quirky personality began to blossom. At some point during his growth he also started to become more of a daddy’s boy. Sorry honey.
Murphy is very playful at times. Since he has some vision issues he prefers toys on the floor that make noise on the tile like marbles, plastic balls, etc. If the toy is anything in the air he just can’t track it. Laser pens are kind of hit and miss since they don’t make noise, but can be on the floor.
He also has an interest in food and becoming a food critic. I have tried to help him with this hobby as much as possible. This interest in food was started very early by one of his early mentors.
Unfortunately, he still has some work to do regarding clean up.
Sometimes he would slip away to take a break while working in the kitchen.
At the end of the day he is usually able to help pull a meal together that looks awesome and tastes great.
While many of our cats are good at making any napping spot look really comfortable, this is not really one of Murphy’s strengths.
Occasionally, Murphy does find a comfy spot or even a snuggle buddy.
We saved Murphy from a very bad situation and with some challenges along the way we were able to help this quirky dude become a pretty awesome family member and dear friend. I can’t imagine going through life without him being in it.
I hope you enjoyed meeting Murphy and hope you will check back in the future to meet another one of our wonderful rescue cats.
