Cats Can Actually Help Make Our Lives Healthier, Safer, and Better

At the very basic level cats offer friendship, companionship, and love. Whatever their version of these things might be. Just petting a cat or any pet helps lower blood pressure. Having a cat in the home helps with loneliness and depression. Caring for a cat can give us a feeling of purpose and being needed.

Listening to a cat purring is one of the most relaxing sounds I have ever heard. I think it’s comparable to the sounds of ocean waves or a stream flowing. It is so calming and makes you feel peaceful to hear that wonderful music coming from your cat. Purring usually indicates that your cat is very happy and content. This feeling can be easily transferred to it’s human as well.

A cat’s purr actually has some healing properties connected with it. There is a range of sound waves that have healing properties that many medical professionals will use for humans. Purring from a cat is in that same range. Cat’s usually purr when they are happy and content, but sometimes they will purr when they don’t feel well or are injured. I had a cat that would cuddle up to me and purring at the exact spot I had an injury or surgery! As if she knew I needed her help. I don’t know if it worked, but I did heal quickly each time. You never know.

When you have a cat in the house you no longer need or want an exterminator.

Cats are terrific at getting after rodents and bugs inside your house. I have had at least one cat at home my entire life and have NEVER seen a mouse. Another bonus is that most cats enjoy “playing” with any bugs they find inside. They will “play” with the unlucky bug until their new toy “breaks”. One time I was trying to smash a cockroach with a shoe. These guys are really fast. Just as I was closing in it slipped in behind a bookshelf…foiled again. Not so fast! Our cat Mittens was near the bookshelf and she reached her paw in behind the shelf and pulled the roach back out! WOW what a save! I frequently will see various bugs on the floor dead with missing legs or other body parts gone. One morning I woke up and walked out in the hallway to see a fast moving beetle just sitting in the middle of the floor with 3 cats surrounding it. It didn’t even try to escape because there was no escape.

We do NOT have exterminators at our home. We have not had this service for decades. Why is that you ask? First of all in most cases it is NOT healthy for our beloved fur friends. Secondly, the cats are very good at providing this service for free and in a healthy fashion. We also have more green, organic, safe ways to handle any bug incursions if needed. So just to be safe for us and our pets we steer clear of any poisons or toxins.
