Your Cat NEEDS Attention!

Cats are known for being aloof loners who are able to just be and don’t need much like their dog counterparts. Although this can be true in certain situations for brief periods of time, it is not a normal, permanent type of behavior.

For example, you can leave your cat over night or even for a weekend if you make sure there is sufficient food, water, and clean litterboxes. It is still highly recommended that you have somebody look in on them during your absence. You would not be able to do this with a dog. Also some cats are hanging out with you just by being in the same room and not really engaging with you directly. Dogs will engage and follow you around and look for more interaction. As a cat owner you need to be aware of what type and level of interaction your cat prefers.

Many cats don’t really like being picked up and carried around. Large cats in particular being picked up and held very awkward and possibly very uncomfortable. Most cats do NOT like to be picked up and cradled in your arms on their back like a human baby. Despite this fact you will see many people including children frequently try to do this maneuver and then be surprised or upset when the cat freaks out. Don’t get me wrong it’s good to pick up your cat from time to time because it may be necessary to move them, check them, clip nails, put them in a carrier for a trip to the vet or somewhere else. Just don’t be surprised if they don’t like to be held for very long.

Grayson letting me know that I am watching too much TV.

Each cat is different in terms of their desire for affection. This can be a challenge for multiple cat households. I try to carve out time for my guys throughout the day. Each one may have a routine that they get their time with me alone. I will try to help facilitate this whenever possible.

See you next time!
